مجمّع أبيض ذو قباب وحده في الصحراء بين القدس وأريحا لا شيء حوله لكيلومترات. قروناً كان موسم ضخم يخرج إليه من القدس كل ربيع: رايات وطبول وآلاف يمشون إلى البرية لمهرجان يستمر أسبوعاً، وقد وُقّت عمداً مع عيد الفصح كي تحتفظ المدينة بعددها المسلم حين يصل الحجاج المسيحيون. مُنع الموسم عقوداً ثم أُحيي جزئياً. وخارج الموسم قد تكون الزائر الوحيد، والصمت في الصحن مذهل.
A white domed complex alone in the desert between Jerusalem and Jericho, with nothing around it for kilometres. For centuries an enormous pilgrimage came here each spring from Jerusalem — banners, drums, thousands of people walking out into the wilderness for a week-long festival, deliberately timed to coincide with Easter so that the city held its Muslim numbers when Christian pilgrims arrived. The festival was banned for decades and has been partly revived. Out of season you may well be the only visitor, and the silence in the courtyard is extraordinary.
النبي موسى. بنى خلفاء صلاح الدين المجمّع هنا سنة ١٢٦٩ وأعلنوه قبر موسى، وهي دعوى تنافس ما في التوراة من أن أحداً لا يعرف موضع دفنه.
'The prophet Moses'. Saladin's successors built the complex here in 1269 and declared it the tomb of Moses — a claim that competes with the Bible, which says no one knows where he is buried.
